Goal-Oriented Therapy
The subconscious mind is formed between birth and age eight. Those first eight years of life, you are learning your belief system. You learn this from your parents and caregivers; their beliefs, behaviors and habits were influencing you. Your young mind absorbed all this information. These beliefs were then stored in your subconscious mind as absolute truths, never to be questioned and difficult to change. At age eight, your mind then created a barrier between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind called the critical faculty.
Your subconscious mind silently controls you. You are not consciously aware of the different beliefs and behaviors your young mind stored but those beliefs run your everyday life.
The way you handle stress, your relationship with food, anxious habits, fears, phobias, even your relationship with your significant other; all of these behaviors, habits and beliefs are controlled by your subconscious mind.
Any new information received after the critical faculty was created is now challenged by it. If the new information conflicts with the subconscious mind’s belief system, the new information is rejected.
Let’s say you want to lose weight. You have struggled with your weight throughout your life. Perhaps you have tried dieting; maybe you have even lost a few pounds but you always seem to gain the weight back. That’s because when your subconscious mind was forming, it programmed negative beliefs about weight. Maybe a parent or family member would say things like, “you’re just big boned” or “you’re always hungry.” This is your unconscious belief so any conflicting new information (eating healthy, exercising more) is disregarded.
Hypnosis works by allowing access to the subconscious mind. Through hypnosis we are able to bypass the critical faculty and place the new suggestion into the subconscious mind without being rejected. And in order to change any habit, behavior or belief, it must reach the subconscious mind. This is why hypnosis is so highly effective at creating change in unwanted habits and behaviors.
Hypnosis is achieved by creating a state of highly focused concentration. After which the hypnotherapist begins providing suggestions in relation to your specific goal.
